Contents: 

Overview of digital libraries, history, DL projects, practical systems, future trends, scanning documents, representing, indexing, compressing and searching digital content (text, image, audio, video), preservation of digital content, semantic search, user access.

Summary: 

After terminating the course, the students should know a few systems by which Digital Libraries may be run, know the essential fundamentals and some advanced methods and techniques around representing, compressing, indexing, and searching digital content (text, images, audio, video), be aware of the problems of long-term archiving of digital content, know about approaches to more semantic search, and understand some specific problems of user access.
