Introduction to Bioinformatics from a computer science view. After an introduction into some microbiological fundamentals, the focus is on data management in bioinformatics: databases, data exchange formats, data acquisition and database search, including some basics of sequence alignment. Chapters on data integration and modeling and simulation conclude the course.
After terminating the course, a student should know some essential fundamentals of microbiology, and of the principles and tools computer science has to offer in this area. The emphasis is an data management rather than algorithmics: data bases, data exchange formats, data acquisition and database search, including some basics of sequence alignment. Chapters on data integration and modeling and simulation conclude the course.
